KEEN Launches Sports programs in Vienna

NEW SPORTS PROGRAM gives more Children with Special Needs a place to belong.
KEEN Greater DC Announces the Opening of a new Sports Program in Fairfax County.
 
            KEEN Greater DC, with financial support from Joyce Koons Honda Buick GMC in Manassas, is launching a new, noncompetitive sports program for Northern Virginia children with disabilities.  The program  officially kicks off this Sunday, March 17, at the Kilmer Center School in Vienna, Virginia, bringing free of charge, one-to-one recreational opportunities to more VA kids with severe and profound developmental and physical disabilities.
 
            The new program was established thanks to Joyce Koons Honda Buick GMC’s summer fundraiser that raised $60K to support children with special needs in our area. For 59 years, Joyce Koons Honda Buick GMC has been committed to our community, and to giving back,” said Koons’ Vice President David Hish. “KEEN Greater DC does so much good, helping kids with special needs turn into everyday heroes. We are proud and honored to support the outstanding, ongoing efforts of both the program and its participants.”
 
            “What makes KEEN unique is that every child is accepted in the program, regardless of the nature or severity of his or her disability,” explained Beata Okulska, Executive Director, KEEN Greater DC.  “Our athletes can enjoy every activity without the fear of losing or not being good enough.  They gain confidence and self-esteem and have a fabulous time doing so.”

            KEEN is always looking for enthusiastic, caring adults to serve as volunteer coaches for all its programs.  Each coach will be trained and paired with KEEN athlete to provide support and encouragement during KEEN’s sessions.  For more information about volunteering as a KEEN coach, contact KEEN Greater DC at [email protected].
