Virtual Volunteer Opportunities During COVID

While social distancing is necessary and in-person programs are not possible, KEEN Greater DC-Baltimore is providing online programs to KEEN Athletes on Zoom and is looking for volunteer groups to help with our Wednesday night sessions. Each Wednesday, from September-December, we’ll be holding social sessions, at 7 pm, that include opportunities to interact, learn, experience new things and have fun with our athletes. Each session will center around one of four themes: Animals, U.S. States, Countries around the world and crafts/dancing. We are looking for volunteer groups that would be interested in creating and delivering a fun social session and engaging with KEEN athletes

Wednesday Sessions Time: 7-7:30 pm. Volunteers must log on to KEEN’s Zoom at 6:45 pm for final prep and tech. checks and remain on the call through the end of the session at 7:45 pm.

For details on each specific theme, please see below.

Animals: Take us into the wild—the oceans, land or air—through webcams at a zoo or aquarium of your choice and give us  some fun facts about the animals you’re taking us to see.
Identify a zoo or aquarium with some good webcams. (Here’s one example: https://zoo.sandiegozoo.org/cams/baboon-cam)  Select 5-7 animals to go visit via webcam and put together 3-5 interesting facts to share about each animal. On your scheduled Animals night, you’ll take the lead and take our athletes on this excursion. Your “tour” should leave room for KEEN athletes to comment and ask questions, and it should also fill 30 minutes.
All volunteer slots are filled through December 2020.

Across the U.S.:  Every state has fun, whacky and beautiful things. Pick one state—or one part of a state—to take us to, virtually. Use photos, videos, maps, music, games and/or webcams to help us experience 4-5 new places within a state in a fun way. Find 5-6 interesting, fun facts to share about each of the places to share with our athletes. On your scheduled U.S. Sights night, you’ll take the lead and take our athletes on this excursion. Your “tour” should leave room for KEEN athletes to comment and ask questions, and it should also fill 30 minutes
All volunteer slots are filled through December 2020.

Around the World: There’s a great big world outside the U.S. borders. Pick a county or a region within a country and take us there using photos, videos, maps and/or webcams. Find 4-5 interesting or beautiful sights and an equal number of fun facts about each to share with our athletes during our live event. On your scheduled U.S. Sights night, you’ll take the lead and take our athletes on this excursion. Your “tour” should leave room for KEEN athletes to comment and ask questions, and it should also fill 30 minutes.
All volunteer slots are filled through December 2020.

Crafts/Dance night: Create a simple, easy fun craft you can do together with our athletes. Crafts that use basic supplies people might already have at home are the best—markers, crayons, glue, basic paint, paper plates and cups. Your craft should fill 15-20 minutes and allow time—5-10 minutes--within that for athletes to show what they’ve created. And then 10 minutes should be devoted to dancing and/or dance games, like freeze dance.
All volunteer slots are filled through December 2020.

KEEN will provide the link to ZOOM and technical assistance during sessions.  For this volunteer projects, we need 3-5 volunteers to do a little research and advanced planning. Each volunteer will receive 3 service hours for content research and session creation and 1 service hour for the session itself.
