15th Annual KEEN Golf & Tennis Classic Wet or Dry, everyone had fun and helped raised funds for KEEN! KEEN Golf & Tennis Classic - Part 1- Wet! Despite torrential downpours, 72 golfers teed off at the KEEN Golf Classic, Part 1 on Monday, April 23, 2008 at Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland. The golfers completed 10 holes before the morning tournament was called due to rain, but the dedicated group of players came back to the clubhouse with smiles on their faces and enjoyed a warm (and dry) buffet lunch. KEEN Board President Don Rosenstein, noted during the dinner held that evening for all golfers, tennis players and friends of KEEN that “At KEEN, opportunities for extraordinary moments when athletes with disabilities connect with volunteer coaches occur each weekend. Thanks to the support from all tournaments participants and especially from our major sponsors Marriott International and Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal, LLP, KEEN Greater DC has grown in the past year. We have 225 young people with disabilities such as autism, cerebral palsy or Down syndrome exercising, making friends and participating in a community activity—their team—KEEN.” KEEN Golf & Tennis Classic – Part 2-Dry! The afternoon shotgun tournament was rescheduled for Monday, May 5, 2008, which turned out to be a warm, sunny day! Close to 100 golfers came out to support KEEN and enjoy a fun morning on the golf course, followed by an outdoor barbeque lunch and awards ceremony. Gallagher Evelius & Jones LLP KEEN Tennis Classic Due to inclement weather on Monday, April 28, 2008, our loyal KEEN supporters moved from Woodmont to an alternate location – The Tennis Center at College Park - and enjoyed a challenging, fun (and dry) afternoon there, participating in a round robin tournament and several contests. They returned to Woodmont Country Club to join the golfers for cocktails and dinner. The KEEN Golf & Tennis Classic would not be a success without the enormous contribution of KEEN’s volunteers. Led by Nancyellen Gentile and Karen Migdail, more than 60 KEEN parents, friends and sponsors joined together to contribute to the smooth operation of this two day, two location event! Volunteers registered guests, drove golf carts, distributed amenity bags, assisted with the silent auction and enjoyed the event, rain or shine.
